“Gov. Bobby Jindal’s administration says gay marriage will currently not be offered or recognized in Louisiana, but his staff acknowledged it’s likely coming.
“Our agencies will have no choice but to comply with the Supreme Court’s decision when the 5th Circuit Court orders the ruling into effect – even though we disagree with it and believe it was wrongly decided, and has nothing to do with the Constitution,” said Mike Reed, Jindal’s spokesman in the governor’s office.
“The Jindal administration has said Louisiana’s state government won’t recognize gay marriage until a lower court rules on the issue. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has taken up a gay marriage case, but was waiting on the Supreme Court ruling before moving forward with it. The Jindal administration is now delaying recognition of gay marriage in Louisiana until this appeals court decision is issued. “
The article goes on to note that only in New Orleans does the Governor have direct control of marriage licenses through the Department of Health and Hospitals. The bitter irony, of course, is that is where the most marriages are likely to be planned, and tourist dollars will be spent. Jindal is a crack shot when it comes to shooting his foot.
How did this dude ever get elected governor in LA?
He looks like “the help” and should have peaked out as Mosquito Control Commissioner. A pathetic attempt to appear non-racist. I know how white folks talk when there are no minorities around.
My “momma” was born in LA, did puberty in Houston, then escaped north. I know parts of that cesspool all too well.

In 1954, SCOTUS ruled against school segregation. Some southern governors indicated they would defy this ruling, so in 1955 Eisenhower (hardly a progressive) sent the 101st Airborne to Little Rock to protect black students as they enrolled at Central High School. Sounds like a precedent to me. Of course, in Texas it might start a shootin’ war.
